Make It OK

In 2020, a group focused on stigma reduction in the north metro and representatives from the Mental Wellness Campaign for Anoka County, started conversations because of similar interests in advancing mental illness stigma reduction and community education related to mental illness. These two groups agreed to work in partnership on mental health stigma reduction with a focus on the Anoka County area. The group also agree that an excellent vehicle for advancing this work was the “Make it OK” (MIO) campaign, which was launched successfully in many other communities and had a focus on mental health stigma reduction. Joining to advance this work was seamless because of the similar goals and geography, and the Make It Okay partners group was formed.

What is Make It OK?

“Make It OK” is a campaign to reduce the stigma of mental illnesses. The campaign is an effort to change the hearts and minds about the misperceptions of mental illnesses by encouraging open conversations and education on the topic.

After meeting with HealthPartners and learning more about how to bring Make It Okay to Anoka County, several members of our group were trained as MIO ambassadors in 2020.

What is a Make It OK Ambassador?

A Make It Ok Ambassador is someone who has a passion for reducing mental health stigma in their community and state. An Ambassador does not need to be an expert on mental health but someone who enjoys connecting, engaging, educating and promoting mental health awareness.
